Are All Property Photographers The Same?

Let’s have a look at what it means to be a ‘professional’ property photographer in 2019.

Experience & Education

Like any profession, experience leads to great results. Would you send your recently hired staff member out value a high-end property? Of course not.

While not essential, a formal education in Photography and Art provides a Photographer with an understanding as how to create photographs that are persuasive and connect with buyers emotionally.

Good Property Photography requires an understanding of architecture, interior-styling, property law, aviation law, lighting, weather forecasts, tides, and managing vendors.

Equipment

While equipment is important, purchasing the latest camera and lighting equipment is not enough to make good property photographs.

Most Estate Agents will own a DSLR and create their own pictures. Some will have even sent their staff on courses to learn more. Have you ever seen an Estate Agents photographs be able to match a Professionals?

Imagine a photographer claiming to offer a competitive Estate Agency service after completing a short course with little prior experience. It’s a recipe for disaster.

Approach To Property Photography

Some ‘professional’ property photographers will photograph a property on a cloudy day and then add a blue sky using Adobe Photoshop. The result of this is the property looks grey, and flat while the sky looks like something taken from the mediterranean. Subconsciously, the image creates a feeling of unease as it does not look natutal and convincing.

Photographers as well as Estate Agents are both guilty of using the flash on their camera to photograph property. On camera flash is the worst way to photograph a property as it produces horrible bright parts in the photo, especially on reflective surfaces such as windows and reflective kitchen furniture. Light does not naturally come from the camera, it comes from windows from above or to the side.

Customer Service

When you hire a third party, whether it be a property photographer, floor planner or EPC Assessor they become an ambassador for your business. Your customers experience of them, whether negative or positive, will be forever linked with your business. By. ensuring each interaction with your customer is a positive experience you gain their confidence in you.

At every stage we manage the vendors expectations by explaining what we believe is the best forward whilst taking on board any information they have specific to the property and area. While we may know an area well, a person who lives at the property will know more and we always ensure any extra information is put to good use.
